The game is set in richly developed fantasy or sci-fi universes (Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 respectively). About

Game Play

In Warhammer, players start by building an army from a specific faction, each with its own unique units, abilities, and lore. Games are typically played on a large tabletop battlefield, with terrain features that affect movement and strategy. Players take turns moving their units, attacking with ranged and melee weapons, casting spells (in Warhammer Fantasy), or using special abilities. Combat and other actions are resolved using dice rolls, with modifiers based on the units' stats and conditions on the battlefield. Victory is achieved by fulfilling specific objectives or by eliminating the opponent’s forces.

New to the game

Begin your Warhammer journey by purchasing a starter set, which includes two small armies, a rulebook, and basic tools for assembly and painting. Games Workshop also offers "Battle Ready" painting tutorials, which are perfect for beginners. Joining a local gaming group or visiting a Games Workshop store can provide invaluable hands-on learning opportunities.

Game history

Warhammer was first created by Games Workshop in 1983 as Warhammer Fantasy Battle, a tabletop miniature wargame set in a dark fantasy world. The game has since evolved into multiple distinct universes, including Warhammer 40,000 (a sci-fi counterpart released in 1987) and Age of Sigmar (a successor to the original Warhammer Fantasy released in 2015). Warhammer 40,000 has become particularly iconic, with a rich lore spanning novels, video games, and a dedicated global fanbase. Each edition of Warhammer 40,000 introduces new rules, armies, and models, with the latest 10th edition released in 2023.

Adapt Your Strategy
Be flexible and ready to adjust your plans based on your opponent’s moves and the evolving situation on the battlefield.

Engage in the Hobby Aspect
Painting and customizing your miniatures can enhance your connection to the game and the lore, and it also contributes to the immersive experience.
